Forest Service hosting next series of Open Houses on Motorized Access

Dear Outdoor Enthusiast:

The Forest Service is to Host Next Series of Open Houses on Motorized Access
The Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River Grassland are formulating a new travel plan that will limit ALL vehicle use to designated roads, trails and areas. The public is invited to attend any of several upcoming open houses scheduled in Central Oregon communities. The Forest Service (FS) is asking for your input during the 45-day public comment period, which will run through June 15, 2008. (more…)

I wanted to give our Utah members a quick update on some events and happenings in the Beehive State. First off, it looks like the gang over at USA-ALL is hosting a really fun event this coming Memorial Day weekend at Little Sahara Sand Dunes. They are calling it the “Dune Crazy Cleanup” and it sounds like a lot of fun. It will also benefit one of the best recreational access groups around (USA-ALL RULES!!) (more…)

Modoc National Forest Seeks Comments on Motorized Routes
The Modoc National Forest is formulating a new travel plan that will limit ALL vehicle use to designated roads, trails and areas. On May 12, 2008, the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) was published in the Federal Register, beginning the formal NEPA (National Environmental Process Act) process for travel management. Dear Outdoor Enthusiasts:

Williams Ranger District Extends Travel Management Comment Period
The Kaibab National Forest, along with all the other national forests and grasslands in the country, is undertaking an analysis of its transportation system. That transportation system ranges from paved roads designed for passenger cars to single-track trails used by dirt bikes. In addition to this managed system of roads and trails, the Kaibab National Forest has many user-created roads and trails. The result of the travel analysis process will be the creation of a Motor Vehicle Use Map, which will identify all the roads, trails and areas on the forest that are open to motor vehicle use. Dear Outdoor Enthusiasts, especially Colorado Recreationists!

The San Juan National Forest, Columbine Ranger District/Field Office is requesting comments on the Lakes Travel Management Environmental Assessment. The analysis area encompasses approximately 67,600 acres of National Forest system lands north of Durango and Bayfield. The pre-decisional Environmental Assessment (EA) is now available for a 30-day public comment period beginning May 8, 2008. (more…)
