ELEVATION 3 Snowmobile Video

Its that time of the year again as we all try to find some way to feed the urge of getting on the sled and tearing up the snow. Some of us think if we can see others having fun on the snow it will lessen our desire to do so. So we pull out the old 2 Stroke Cold Smoke, with the 1995 XLT as the king of the hill. We then realize that the sled we have sitting on the trailer outside is 10 years newer and so maybe its time to upgrade the snowmobile video collection. Which one do you buy though? There are so many companies making snowmobile videos these days that it would cost more than your sled to buy them all every year. So which one do you choose?

This year I decided to choose one that I have not seen before. Luckily I’ve had the opportunity to get my hands on almost one of everyone’s videos so I have a good selection at my disposal. However one I had not been able to see yet was Elevation with Team Summit. I saw the teasers and heard it was good, but I wanted to know for myself it was worth purchasing. Well I decided I would just bite the bullet and get it. Hopefully if you are looking at doing the same I can share some insight here to help you make your decision.

This video is a little more unique than the others I’ve seen. First you think of California you don’t think of snowmobiles you think of surfing and cars, not back country extreme riding. So I was quite interested in seeing if these guys can hang with the best. This video sure show’s that even though they might not be from a state that is viewed as an excellent snowmobiling state they sure can ride. They even travel to Utah to ride with the Boondocker crew and partake of some of the great powder we get to enjoy almost every year. My hat goes off to them as the put on a pretty good show.

Things I Liked:

One thing they did really well in this video is let you know what they are riding. I really liked that. Too often these days you see a video with a rider doing some sick climbs and wonder, “man can my stock sled do that?” The sled looks stock and looks to be the same thing you have, but you know that it would not go up that hill as easy as the guy in the video did, so you assume it has some modifications. These guys come right you and tell you that hey even though it might look like a 900 RMK with a black hood, it is really a 1150cc with custom tunnel, custom suspension, pipes, and billet gas cap. Then you know that your stock 900 will not go everywhere he goes.

They also try to make it so you get to know the rider, get a little bit of a personal relationship with each rider. Has somewhat a pull to make you watch the movie and feel a little more when you see them pull some sick shoot and hope they make it to the top. It was nice to see everyones personality and get to know the “Rider”.

Dislikes:

There were somethings I did not like about this video. The biggest one for me is the camera angle from the helicopter. It looked as if these guys were on almost flat ground getting stuck on these mod sleds, when in reality it is this way steep hill with 2 ft of powder on it. Really took away some of the extremeness of the video.

About the only other thing I didn’t like about the video was how they did the person interviews. Ya this somewhat contradicts what I said earlier. I liked the personal interviews, but not how they did them. I think they could have done a better job of presenting them. Maybe rather than showing them and their sled the whole time, they could have showed the person as they introduced themselves, did a 360 view of the sled as they described all the mods they have done and then as they kept talking show some of the climbs or boondocking. The interviews somewhat break up the video enough that it is almost annoying.

All in all if you are looking for a new snowmobile video Elevation 3 with Team Summit will not disappoint. Keep watching those videos even though it makes the itch that much worse.

After watching the Elevation Season 3 video, I was interested in some areas that I had originally discarded as possible riding areas. Unfortunately, the video was unspecific as to the areas it visited in California and Nevada but who can blame them for that. Regardless, Elko, Nevada and various places in California were the particular areas I said to myself “Wouldn’t mind loading up and headin there”. It sure opens up the doors for exploration in the upcoming season. I enjoyed seeing some skill and technic from the riders as they maneuver their snowmobiles around obstacles while playing in the store. They didn’t employ some of the highly modified snowmobiles to just point and shoot up the hill as other videoed riders might do. That was pleasant to see.
